Idaho doesn't have real estate license reciprocity — but if your out-of-state license is active, the state will waive the national exam and all prelicense education. You only need to pass the Idaho state exam portion.

- 1Order a certified license history from your primary state of licensure. This often takes 3–6 weeks — start early.
- 2Create a Pearson Professional Assessments candidate ID at pearsonvue.com/id/realestate and note the ID on your waiver form.
- 3Email your certified license history + completed waiver request form to [email protected].
- 4Wait for waiver approval before scheduling the exam. Scheduling before the waiver is applied may require you to take both portions.
- 5Schedule and pass the Idaho state portion through Pearson Professional Assessments. The state portion has 40 scored questions with a 90-minute time limit and a 70% passing threshold.
- 6Complete fingerprints, obtain E&O insurance, and submit your application through the DOPL Online Services portal.
Timing note: Certified license histories are valid for a limited window and may need to be refreshed if they expire before your application is accepted. Don't wait — request yours as soon as you decide to pursue an Idaho license.
Does Idaho have real estate license reciprocity with other states?
No — Idaho does not have reciprocity agreements with any state. However, agents with an active out-of-state license can apply for a waiver of the national exam portion and all prelicense education requirements. This is sometimes called "reciprocity" informally, but it's technically a waiver process that requires a certified license history and IREC approval.
Do I still take an exam if I qualify for the waiver?
Yes — the waiver covers the national portion only. You still take the Idaho state portion (40 scored questions, 90 minutes, 70% passing score) after your waiver is applied.
What happens if I schedule my exam before the waiver is applied?
You may be required to take both portions of the exam. The waiver must be applied to your Pearson account before you schedule the exam appointment.
What does "primary state of licensure" mean?
Idaho ties the waiver to your primary state — the state that issued your original license. You request a certified license history from that state and submit it with your waiver form.
I don't have an active license — can I still get licensed in Idaho?
Yes, but you'll follow the standard Idaho licensing path: complete the required 90-hour prelicense education, pass both the national and state exam portions, and submit a full application. Compare course packages →
I'm from a single-licensure state — can I get an Idaho broker license?
If your primary state is a single-licensure state (everyone holds a broker license), Idaho requires you to hold a Principal/Designated Broker license to qualify for an Idaho broker license. Designated Brokers must also take Idaho's Business Conduct & Office Operations (BCOO) course.
Do I still need fingerprints and E&O insurance?
Yes. Fingerprints and a background check are required for all applicants. E&O coverage must be in place before your Idaho license can be activated.

I loved doing my Real Estate module classes with Idaho Online Real Estate Academy. I needed a class to work with my schedule and to be able to participate in the evenings. This class was perfect. I was worried about doing a class through zoom, but the instructor Nikki kept the information flowing and the class interesting. Nikki really helped us know the information we needed in order to pass the class and I appreciated that.
