Student FAQ — Idaho LAUNCH for Graduating Seniors

What is the April 15 deadline exactly?
April 15, 2026 is the final deadline to submit your Idaho LAUNCH application through Next Steps Idaho. Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted. There is also a priority deadline of November 30 — applying early may result in a faster award decision. Your Career Pathway Plan must be completed by May 31, 2026. You can verify current program details on Idaho’s official Idaho LAUNCH page.
What is a Career Pathway Plan and how do I complete it?
A Career Pathway Plan is a required part of your Idaho LAUNCH application that outlines the career you want to pursue and how your chosen education leads there. If you're at a public or charter school, check with your school counselor — many schools integrate this into senior projects or Go-On activities. If you're homeschooled, in private school, or completing a GED, you'll complete the plan through the Next Steps Idaho portal directly.
Do I need a certain GPA or test score to qualify?
No. Idaho LAUNCH is not based on grades, test scores, or financial need. It's based on your intent to train for an in-demand career in Idaho. If you're a graduating Idaho senior and you complete the application and Career Pathway Plan, you're eligible regardless of your academic record.
I'm homeschooled / getting my GED — can I still apply?
Yes. Homeschool students and GED students are eligible for Idaho LAUNCH. GED students must complete their GED by June 15, 2026. Homeschool students complete their Career Pathway Plan through Next Steps Idaho rather than through a school counselor.
Can I use Idaho LAUNCH funding at any school?
You can only use Idaho LAUNCH funding at approved providers for your chosen career pathway. For real estate pre-licensing education, Idaho Online Real Estate Academy is an approved provider in the program. When you apply, select Real Estate Sales Agent as your career and Idaho Online Real Estate Academy as your school.
Why can't I enroll and pay before I'm approved?
The Idaho LAUNCH program requires funding approval to be in place before enrollment. We've structured our process so you register your interest first, and we send you a direct enrollment and payment link once your approval is confirmed. This protects you from paying before your funding is secure.
What if I miss the April 15 deadline?
If you miss the student deadline, you won't be eligible for the student program (up to $8,000). However, once you turn 18 you can apply for the adult program through IdahoWorks (up to $3,500) at any time — there's no deadline for adults. You can also enroll at list price without waiting for any funding.
Do I need to be 18 to get my real estate license?
Yes. The Idaho Real Estate Commission requires you to be at least 18 years old to apply for a license. You can begin your coursework before turning 18, but you'll need to wait until your 18th birthday to take the licensing exam and submit your application. See our full licensing process guide and the Idaho Real Estate Commission (IREC) for official licensing requirements.
What else do I need to do after the course to get licensed?
After completing your 90 hours of pre-licensing education, you still need to: get fingerprinted ($61.25), pass the state and national licensing exams through Pearson VUE ($83.00, need 70%+ on both), apply for your license through Idaho DOPL ($135), and join a brokerage and obtain errors & omissions insurance to activate your license. These costs are not covered by Idaho LAUNCH. Our licensing process guide walks through each step in detail.
