- Pass the exam: national + Idaho portions.

Idaho Licensing Process (5 Steps)
Tap the step you’re working on. Most students start at Step 2.
Meet Idaho's Basic Eligibility Requirements
Quick check before you invest time in the 90-hour course.
- Age: Be at least 18.
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Legal presence: Legally present in the U.S.
Complete the Required 90 Hours (Module 1 + Module 2)
This is the main prerequisite before you can schedule the exam. Most students choose self-paced for speed and flexibility.
- Total hours: 90 hours (45 hours Module 1 + 45 hours Module 2).
- Passing score: 70%+ on course exams.
- Seat time: The system tracks required learning time automatically.
Fingerprints, Exam Registration, + Test Prep
This is the stage where most students handle both fingerprinting and exam planning. You can submit your application even if fingerprint results are still pending, as long as you have completed the appointment or mailed your hard card.
- Complete fingerprinting first: You may submit your license application after fingerprinting is done, even if the background check results have not been posted yet.
- Expect processing time: Fingerprint results can take 1–6 weeks. It is normal for your portal to show a temporary deficiency while the Commission waits for the results.
- Know the validity window: Fingerprints are valid for 6 months once received by the Commission, so do not wait too long to finish the rest of the licensing steps.
- Plan your exam timing: Most students schedule the Idaho licensing exam after finishing the course and spending 1–3 weeks reviewing with practice exams while the material is still fresh.
- Use exam prep before you book: Before you register for the test, review our Idaho real estate exam prep guide for study timing, practice questions, the topics students miss most, and nearby testing guidance.
Pay the Required Fees + Submit Your Application
Applications are submitted online through Idaho’s portal. Below are the typical costs and a simple checklist so you don’t have to hunt across multiple pages.
Activate Your License: Brokerage + E&O Insurance
After passing the exam and submitting your application, you’ll activate your license by affiliating with a brokerage and securing Errors & Omissions coverage.
- Sponsoring brokerage: Your license becomes “active” once you affiliate with an Idaho brokerage.
- E&O insurance: Required before activation; often arranged through your chosen brokerage.
- Best practice: Interview brokerages while finishing Module 2 to avoid any start-date delays.
